#2: Doodle Your Food
Take a minute before you doomscroll and shovel.
Instructions
Put some Post-its or other paper and a pen/marker next to where you eat.
When you sit down to eat, take a moment to draw your food and/or beverages.
Don't try to make something Beautiful and Perfect. JUST DRAW.
Do it for a few days and notice what changes... or doesn't.
** Note: if you don't like food or it's a complicated thing, adjust to something easier, such as the shape of the toothpaste on your toothbrush.
Who the What?
This one is inspired and dedicated to the artist and New York champion Jason Polan, who sadly passed away last January. Jason created and hosted a semi-regular drawing meetup called Taco Bell Drawing Club, which was exactly what it says it was (and continues to be in his memory). He drew EVERYTHING, including food, with a sense of interest and love.
As his mother wrote:
“He was always drawing people and things – whether people enjoying a taco, riding the subway, walking a dog, the sculptures around the city, the Statue of Liberty, objects in museums, garbage collectors, a plant in a store window, a dress hanging in a cleaners…
We are all proud of this work, and again, have come to realize that to Jason each and every person was important, not just something to draw.”
Jason loved food and loved drawing. I mean, check out the burger shirt he made for UNIQLO:
UNIQLO appreciated his work so much that they have a permanent memorial drawing club in their Toyko store. Mindfulness and eating are good buddies as well. The teacher Thich Nhat Hanh has some good instructions on it.
